Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has made that the club have total commitment to trying to extend defender Milan Skriniar’s contract.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the Nerazzurri excutive reiterated the Nerazzurri’s intentions when it comes to the contract talks, which are reported to begin today.

It has never been any secret that Inter have made agreeing a new deal with Skriniar a priority.

After the decision to keep hold of the 27-year-old in the summer despite strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain, the next step has always looked like convincing him to extend beyond the end of June 2023 rather than potentially leaving for free next summer.

There is no guarantee of this happening, and the club could look to other possibilities should an agreement not be found.

However, as Marotta made perfectly clear, the club’s absolute priority and will remains to extend Skriniar’s contract past the summer.

“The will of the club is to extend his contract,” the CEO said, “this is something that’s explicit and has always been our express desire because the player deserves a new contract.”‘

“He’s a serious professional,” Marotta said of Skriniar, “he can be a very important reference point for us and we hope that we can reach an agreement.”
