Legendary former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso feels that it’s significant that the Nerazzurri once again have a full complement of attackers.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Cambiasso noted that Inter no longer have to be reliant on Lautaro Martinez to start every match, and also praised the Nerazzurri for their display to beat Viktoria Plzen 4-0.

Over the past two months, Inter have been without Romelu Lukaku through injury, whilst Joaquin Correa has also spent some time on the sidelines, and Martinez has not always been at his best physically.

This has meant that the team’s attack has been stretched thin, and selecting the forwards has been more a matter of being forced to pick who’s been available than rotating and making choices for Simone Inzaghi.

Now that Lukaku is finally back, the coach can start to chop and change the attack, getting different kinds of contributions from different players both from the start and from the bench.

This is marked contrast to the last couple months where Inzaghi has had little option but to hope that Martinez and then one of Dzeko or Correa can be at their best.

“Now with so many matches to come, it will be difficult to establish who starts and when,” Cambiasso suggested.

“Lautaro has played a lot, and now they’re no longer forced into always having him as the starter.”

The treble-winner also praised Inter’s performances in the Champions League, stating that “They put out the level of performances that they needed to.”

“I liked to see the calmness that they’ve played with, they’ve proven that they’re a mature team.”

“The sense I get is that the team always knew that they’d be able to bring the result home,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s victory over Plzen.\

“This kind of maturity is important for a team in the Champions League.”
