Former Inter President Massimo Moratti feels that it would be a positive thing for the Nerazzurri if current President Steven Zhang is to stay on in his role.

Speaking to Italian news outlet IMInter.it, the legendary former President also stressed that last Saturday’s win over Fiorentina can be a platform to launch a Serie A title challenge, and reacted to the Nerazzurri’s qualification for the Champions League knockouts.

Zhang recently passed four years since he took charge of Inter in the role of President.

During that time, there have certainly been ups and downs for the President and for the club.

Financial difficulties have led to some painful sales and financial restrictions as well as a constant sense of upheaval and uncertainty.

However, at the same time the Nerazzurri have won the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana during the period, in addition to reaching the Champions league round of sixteen in both of the past two seasons.

Moratti argued that Zhang’s words about not wanting to sell Inter “Can only be a good thing because of course any change will come as a shock.”

“If he stays on permanently, it will guarantee continuity,” the former President argued.

Moratti also spoke about Inter’s Serie A season, predicting that “I think the victory in Florence is a positive sign that they can ultimately win, winning in Florence often brings a positive omen.”

“We hope the team can reach the finish line,” he continued, “on the other hand Napoli look very scary to me, and Milan have shown that they can guarantee consistent results.”

Asked if he expected Inter to qualify for the Champions League round of sixteen, Moratti replied “No, maybe not.”

“They had a difficult group, but it turned out very well.”

“They deserve immense credit for the matches they played against Barcelona,” the former President said.

And regarding the contract extension talks with defender Milan Skriniar, Moratti said that “Certainly it’s only the club who can make these kinds of financial evaluations.”

“Still, it would be very important that he stays,” he added of the Slovak defender.
