Inter CEO Beppe Marotta feels that the Nerazzurri are building a team that can be completely competitive on the pitch.
Speaking at the club’s annual shareholders’ meeting, via the Nerazzurri’s official site, the CEO projected confidence regarding the ambition and competitiveness of the current sporting project at Inter.
Inter had a very eventful summer transfer window, with the return of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea being the most eye-catching piece of business.
Multiple players came and went, however, as the club looked to try and address key areas of the squad to improve on last season’s performances.
The early signs in the season have been mixed, as the Nerazzurri started off the campaign in quite poor form on the pitch.
However, over the last month things have taken a turn for the better, capped off by qualification for the Champions League knockouts from a group containing Bayern Munich and Barcelona with a match to spare.
Marotta said that “We proudly finished last season with two trophies to show and a place in the Champions League last 16, a feat that the club hadn’t achieved in ten years, and we’ve replicated that this year by getting through a group in which everyone thought we were the underdogs.”
“Congratulations to Simone Inzaghi and all the players,” he continued.
The CEO noted that “Our Primavera side won a tenth Scudetto title, making Inter the first club in Italy to have earned a historic first star at youth level.”
He also noted that “The Inter Women project is also showing more and more ambition.”
“In preparation for the 2022/23 season, we made numerous carefully chosen incoming and outgoing operations,” Marotta said.”
“These were completed in line with the parameters that we had set for ourselves, building a squad that does not want to set any limits and that wants to approach the journey that lies ahead in the league with self-belief and a desire to keep winning.”
