Inter President Steven Zhang feels confident that the club will be able to agree a new contract with defender Milan Skriniar.

Speaking in a press conference after the annual shareholders’ meeting, via the Nerazzurri’s official site, Zhang emphasized that the Slovakian’s love of Inter can make an agreement on an extension possible.

Yesterday Inter reportedly began serious contract talks with Skriniar and his representatives.

Extending the 27-year-old’s deal is an absolute priority for the Nerazzurri, as the club do not want to risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of this season.

There is no outcome to the talks yet, as yesterday’s meeting was reportedly only an initial one to set up the negotiations.

However, as far as Zhang is concerned, there is reason for optimism regarding the talks.

The President feels very confident that the club and Skriniar will be able to agree on a new deal that leaves all parties happy.

“Regarding Skriniar, I’m sure he loves these colours,” Zhang said, “I’m sure we will find an agreement to continue on together.”

He also spoke about the desire to make the team competitive on the pitch with signings.

“There are always many rumours,” Zhang said, “but in each transfer window we’ve worked to make the team more and more competitive.”

“Expectations are always high for us,” he continued, “we obviously want to keep hold of our top players.”

The President noted that “A club director always has to understand when it’s the right time to make a big offer to a player, we need to evaluate what we are able to reinvest in the transfer market.”
