Former Inter and Juventus wing-back Kwadwo Asamoah has claimed that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Antonio Conte return to the latter next season.
Conte enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Juventus between 2011 and 2014, as he won the Serie A title in each of his three seasons at the club, whilst he also led Inter to the Scudetto in 2021.
In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-Ghana international discussed reports that Juventus were looking to tempt Conte away from Tottenham Hotspur to replace under-pressure incumbent Massimiliano Allegri.
“It would not surprise me because over the years I have learned that anything can happen in football,” the 33-year-old declared.
“Conte is a world-class coach and at Juventus he has already done a great job in the past.
“A job which he then continued with excellent results, but Allegri is another great technician.”
Juventus have struggled this season and have already been eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage, whilst they currently languish in eighth-place and are nine points off leaders Napoli.
Asamoah admitted that from what he had seen of the Bianconeri, they were lacking the mental fortitude associated with the team under Conte.
“I haven’t seen all of Juventus’ matches, but in the ones I followed the feeling is that the hunger, the determination and the Juve spirit that I learned from Conte is not always at it’s maximum.
“There is a lack of continuity, which is one of the fundamental qualities to wear, the black and white shirt,” he concluded.
Asamoah made 156 appearances for Juventus from 2012 until 2018, before moving to Inter and featuring 53 times until 2020.
