Despite growing optimism that Inter will reach an agreement on a new contract with defender Milan Skriniar, it is still expected that there will be a significant sale next summer.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, President Steven Zhang is confident that a breakthrough can be reached to tie Slovakia international Skriniar to a new contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.

Zhang met with Skriniar’s representatives on Thursday and declared his optimism that the former Sampdoria defender would remain during yesterday’s shareholders meeting.

However, this positive news may be dampened somewhat by the suggestion that work to balance the club’s books may require the sale of a first team player at the end of the campaign.

Inter have been targeting a net surplus of €60 million for the year, and work to meet this figure began this summer with the sales of Andrea Pinamonti and Cesare Casadei.

This was not deemed sufficient though, and it is now thought likely that a major outgoing transfer will happen before 30 June 2023.
