Former Inter goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca is optimistic that the club can recover from their mixed start to the season and claim the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri have flattered to deceive domestically this term and find themselves in seventh place, trailing leaders Napoli by eight points in their quest to reclaim the Scudetto that they last won in 2021.

Speaking on Italian television broadcaster DAZN earlier today, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, ex-Nerazzurri star Pagliuca pointed to Juventus’ recovery after a slow start in the 2015-16 season, before they recovered to win the title, as something for Inter to emulate.

“For me, Inter still have the chance to win the title,” the 55-year-old declared.

“I remember when Juve won the Scudetto, six or seven years ago, after being 10 to 12 points behind, so why can’t Inter? They can win it.”

However, the former Italy international admitted that Napoli were the favourites to secure the title, and that AC Milan were better placed to defend their Scudetto than Inter were in overtaking them.

“Obviously I see Napoli as favourites over Milan, and then Inter, that’s true,” he concluded.

Pagliuca joined Inter from Sampdoria in 1994 and made 234 appearances for the Nerazzurri, helping them to lift the UEFA Cup in 1998, before joining Bologna the following summer.
