Referee Luca Massimi’s decision not to send any Sampdoria players off during their 3-0 defeat to Inter yesterday has been called into question by Italian media.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, Massimi was lenient in his decision making as the Nerazzurri secured a comprehensive victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, courtesy of goals from Stefan De Vrij, Nicolo Barella, and Joaquin Correa.

The newspaper argued that Sampdoria defender Gerard Yepes was fortunate to stay on the pitch after he fouled Nicolo Barella with just over 30 minutes played, having already received a yellow card.

Similarly, Massimi chose not to show Manolo Gabbiadini a red card for his foul on Hakan Calhanoglu in the second half, with the forward already in the book.

Both players were given warnings but neither were dismissed, although ultimately it did not prove decisive as Inter were comfortable winners against their relegation-threatened opponents.
