Inter’s Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku hasn’t suffered a new injury but is experiencing residual pain from previous hamstring injury he has recovered from.

This according to France Football journalist Thymote Pinon via his Twitter account after having spoken with Romelu Lukaku’s entourage.

“According to Lukaku’s people this is not a relapse or a new injury but we are talking about residual pain but no new tear.

“This is quite common with muscle injuries where the scars are usually significant.”

With the FIFA World Cup in Qatar just around the corner, reports in Italy suggested that Lukaku’s participation for Belgium could be at risk, claiming he could return for Inter in January 2023 earliest.

However, according to the French journalist Lukaku’s aim is to feature for Inter before the World Cup break in order to get into match fitness before traveling to Qatar with Roberto Martinez Belgium.

“To be precise: the objective remains to play again with Inter before the World Cup. Because it would be very complicated for a player of his profile to do well in Qatar without having gained a minimum of rhythm.

“On the Inter side, we are waiting for the next medical tests without being super optimistic.”

Romelu Lukaku underwent a medical examination earlier this morning which showed he had suffered a thigh strain which will see him miss the clashes against Bayern Munich and Juventus, Inter stated.

The Chelsea owned striker had only recently returned from a hamstring injury which had kept him sidelined for almost all of Inter’s Champions League group stage matches.

The Nerazzurri were hoping to play him in the final Champions League group stage clash against Bayern Munich to get him fit for the important Serie A clash on Sunday against Juventus.
