Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is happy to see his team get the chance to face Bayern Munich tomorrow without the pressure of needing a result to qualify for the Champions League knockouts.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia ahead of the match, the coach spoke about the significance of the match for the team, and also updated on the condition of striker Romelu Lukaku.

Inter may have initially worried about tomorrow’s match in the context of their season.

Had the Nerazzurri needed a result in order to reach the knockout stage, they would have to get it against one of the most difficult teams in Europe away.

Instead, Inter managed to qualify with a match to spare as they did last season.

Inzaghi is pleased with this state of affairs, stating that “It’s certainly a great thing for us.”

“We knew we had a very difficult group and that the last match would be here in Munich,” he continued.

“Coming here having already qualified is a dream for us,” the coach said, “and arrive having gotten ourselves on the right track.”

“Tomorrow we will play this match in a great stadium against a very tough opponent.”

Of striker Lukaku, Inzaghi said that “He experienced a bit of a recurrence of the injury he had already had, he’ll probably be out for a bit.”

“Tomorrow he would have played significant minutes, but for now he’s out,” the coach said of the striker.

“He’ll undergo further tests next week, we’re hoping that we can have him available.”

Asked if he expects to make changes to his team, Inzaghi replied that “I’ll certainly make some changes, I’ll have to make my evaluations based on what I see in training, but clearly I still want to put out a competitive team on the pitch.”

“Compared to the first leg we’ve changed as a team,” the coach went on, “we’ll be without some players who are absent but it will be a great challenge for us to come up against.”
