Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that current Nerazzurri midfielder Niccolo Barella is really starting to look comfortable on the pitch.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former defender gave the view that Barella’s form has coincided with a sense of enjoyment on the pitch, whilst he also hailed the drive and intensity in defense of midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.
Barella had not started the current season showing his best form, but in recent matches the 25-year-old has demonstrated just how devastating he can be.
Goals in the Nerazzurri’s last three Serie A matches as well as a vital one against Barcelona have only been the tip of the iceberg as far as some all-action displays from the former Cagliari midfielder.
Bergomi has been very impressed with what he’s seen from Barella, and feels that the attacking impetus he’s given the team has been a consequence of greater enthusiasm and enjoyment on the pitch from him.
“Now Barella is starting to enjoying his football, just look at the smile on his face after his goal,” the former defender said.
“His attitude is now the right one, he took criticism because his attitude hadn’t been that of a European-level footballer, but now it is.”
Bergomi also spoke about Barella’s fellow midfielder Calhanoglu, noting that “I really trust Riccardo Ferri, who told me that in training he’s been the player with the greatest drive, always trying to win the ball back.”
“He’s in good form,” he said of the Turk, “I would give some serious thought as to whether or not to take him out of that position, especially in these three decisive matches for the season.”
