Inter wingback Robin Gosens is hopeful that he can earn playing time at the Nerazzurri even despite the excellent recent form of Federico Dimarco.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, the 28-year-old talked about his ambition to give Simone Inzaghi a tough decision between himself and Dimarco.

Gosens had been the player who many expected to inherit the starting spot down Inter’s left flank from Ivan Perisic this season.

Instead, it has been Dimarco who has frequently had that role.

The 24-year-old has been in the best form of his Inter career, putting in good displays on both sides of the ball and proving crucial to both the Nerazzurri’s buildup play and in the final third with his passing and deliveries.

However, Gosens has qualities of his own to offer, and the German wants to make a case for him even ahead of the in-form Dimarco.

The 28-year-old noted that “Even when I’m not playing, I’m the first person to root for the team, this is something that’s always come naturally to me, but also [his continued enthusiasm even when not playing] is always a sign of how tight-knit this team is.”

He continued that “I’is true that at the moment I’m not getting the playing time I’d like to, but I try to take advantage of all the chances that the coach gives me.”

“Moreover, you can see how well I’m playing whenever I come on, so I’m always training at my best to make life as difficult for the coach as possible.”

“We have to accept that Fede is in currently in excellent form, so the task for me is to show that I also have something to offer.”

Of arriving at the Allianz Stadium in Munich, Gosens said that “It’s a great feeling for me, because this is where I scored my goal against Portugal, it was a great goal and it changed a lot for me here in Germany.”

“For me it’s a great feeling to play here against Bayern Munich, one of the strongest teams in the world.”

“Tomorrow will be a great match between two teams in good form,” he added.

Asked if he thinks the old Robin Gosens is back, the 28-year-old replied that “Yes, because that’s how I feel.”

“I feel as strong as I did before the injury,” he continued, “perhaps I had underestimated the impact that that long time away would have on my body, but now I’m feeling like the player who was at Atalanta and I’m ready to give my absolute maximum.”
