Italian Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi has made very clear that action will be taken in response to the behaviour of Inter’s Curva Nord ultras group during Saturday’s Serie A win over Sampdoria.

Responding to the events in a tweet, the Minister condemned the conduct of the ultras group who forced regular fans to leave the stands as “unacceptable” and said that the reaction will be more than just words.

Scandalous scenes occurred during the second half of Inter’s Serie A match against Sampdoria over the weekend.

Members of the Nord ultras group decided to vacate the Curva Nord stand as a show of spontaneous tribute to news that a prominent figure from their ranks, Vittoria Boiocchi, had been shot dead.

However, the ultras did not only leave the stand themselves, but also intimidated and acted violently towards other matchgoing fans to ensure that the entire stand would be empty for the second half of the match.

The events prompted a shocked response from many, and Abodi has made clear that the official response will reflect the seriousness of the incident.

“I have been entrusted with this great responsibility for a week,” he writes, “so I hope that the significance of my response is clear.”

“I have informed myself about the events, what happened is unacceptable, it is not something that can be tolerated.”

Abodi finishes with a very clear statement that “I’m sure that immediate action will be taken. Not just words!”
