Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels that the team have found the right spirit and mentality to get the best out of their season.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Gosens praised the mindset that has seen the Nerazzurri grow into their season over the past few weeks.
Inter have now won four matches in a row in Serie A, whilst they head into tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich having already qualified for the knockout rounds from a group which also contained Barcelona.
This is not how the Nerazzurri began the campaign, having struggled in the early going and dropped a number of important points.
However, Gosens and his teammates have found a way to get things back on track.
The 28-year-old credits the way that the team have rediscovered their winning spirit for this upturn in fortunes.
“We’ve found the right spirit, the belief that we’re a winning team,” he said.
“We have individual players who are absolutely high level, but also players who have a lot of qualities off the pitch,” he continued.
Gosens noted that “Through all of this we’ve found ourselves, we’ve found the right spirit and so we can win, and we can prove how much we are worth.”
Of tomorrow’s match against Bayern, which will not affect the outcome of the Champions League group, the German said that “It will remain an interesting match between two teams who are in great form.”
“Bayern are also doing very well,” he noted, “they won easily against Mainz, but we’re in good form too.”
“Our wingbacks can always hurt a back four defense,” Gosens noted. “We want to show what we’re worth, that we’re a different team to the one from two months ago.”
Gosens also expressed confidence that he can get back to the kind of form that convinced Inter to sign him, stating that “I feel like the Robin I was back at Atalanta, the one everyone is familiar with.”
“This is a source of great satisfaction for me as I’ve fought hard to get back to this level,” the 28-year-old went on, “it hasn’t been an easy period but I’ve always believed in it.”
“Now the lfinal missing step is to play regularly,” Gosens continued, “that’s what I hope for, although for the time being we have to accept that Fede [Dimarco] is in great form and the team is playing well with him.”
“This has to be accepted, so all I can do is always give my best when I come on and in training so that I can give the coach a difficult decision to make because he knows what I’m capable of.”
