Inter midfielder Kristjan Asllani feels that it is a dream to have made it to where he is with the Nerazzurri considering where he had been just a year and a half ago.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the team’s 2-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich, the Albanian noted that it hasn’t been very long at all since he was still breaking out within the youth game.

Asllani made his third start of the season in all competitions for Inter in yesterday’s match.

The 20-year-old has yet to really cement a regular place in this Nerazzurri team, although perhaps considering his circumstances, the amount of playing time that he has been trusted with should be viewed in a different light.

Asllani has certainly proved that even if he is not yet at the required level to be a regular in Inter’s starting eleven, he certainly does not look out of place at a very high level.

“Until a year and a half ago I was on the bench with the Primavera team,” he noted of his time at Empoli, “so being here is a dream.”

“I play for the team I’ve supported since I was a child,” he continued, “I made my debut in this shirt when I was twenty.”

“I would have preferred to win, but we’ve managed to progress from the group.”

Of the match against Bayern, Asllani said that “We knew it would be difficult, but we played our game by remaining compact throughout the match.”

“We could have scored, their goalkeeper made some excellent saves,” he noted.

“It’s too bad that we lost, but what we’ve accomplished in the group can’t be taken away.”
