Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann feels that Inter’s chances in the Champions League knockout rounds should not be ruled out.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Nagelsmann argued that considering the Nerazzurri have made it out of the toughest group of the group stage, they have to be counted among the favourites to win the entire competition.

Inter will be taking things one step at a time and not getting ahead of themselves even though they’ve reached the Champions League round of sixteen.

The Nerazzurri will not know what awaits them on the other side of the round of sixteen draw, and they will know just how formidable the opposition can be at this level having lost twice to Bayern already.

However, Inter have grown into their matches against Bayern, whilst their four points against Barcelona can be a model for how they must play if they hope to continue their path in Europe’s top competition.

Nagelsmann gave the view that “Inter could go a long way in the Champions League, just like us, but in the knockout phase you have to keep the tension high across two-legged ties.”

“They haven’t been perfect,” he said of the Nerazzurri, “but when you progress from such a tough group, you undoubtedly have to be among the favourites to win it all.”
