Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny feels that Sunday evening’s Serie A match against Inter is very much a head-to-head clash for the Bianconeri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the 32-year-old stressed that the match will be an important one for the Bianconeri’s season particularly given the teams’ place in the table.

Meetings between Inter and Juventus are always among the showpiece occasions of Italian football.

Apart from the traditional rivalry that exists between the two clubs, the competitive ramifications for the match are always significant.

This time around, both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri head into the match trying to recover from poor starts to the season, with neither really living up to their status among the preseason title favourites early on.

Sunday’s match will be an important opportunity for both teams to assert themselves on the road to the World Cup break.

“It’s a match against a direct rival for us,” Szczesny said of this weekend’s match, “we’re going into it having gotten into a bit better position in the table.”

“The return of Chiesa is cause for enthusiasm,” he continued, “we’re going to try and win it.”
