Premier League duo Manchester City and Chelsea will be among the teams that Inter are hoping to avoid in the draw for the Champions League round of sixteen.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who also note that defending champions in the competition Real Madrid would be very formidable opposition for the Nerazzurri to face.

Qualifying for the knockout rounds from second spot in their group, Inter will get the tougher draw on paper, coming up against a team who finished top of their own group.

The Nerazzurri cannot face Serie A rivals Napoli in the round of sixteen, whilst they will avoid Bayern Munich having already faced them twice in the group stage.

None of the other possibilities would be easy by any means, and the likes of Porto, Benfica, and Tottenham Hotspur have all shown their quality to finish top of their own respective groups.

However, it would be City who the Nerazzurri would most hope to avoid, given the Premier League champions’ reputation as one of the strongest, if not the single strongest, teams in Europe.

Meanwhile, Chelsea put in two dominant displays against Inter’s city rivals and Serie A champions AC Milan to prove how tough they can be, and the Nerazzurri would also hardly relish meeting Real again, having lost their last four group stage meetings with Los Blancos.
