Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that this Sunday’s Serie A clash between the Nerazzurri and Juventus will be an important moment pointing to how the rest of the season will go.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi suggested that Sunday’s match will send an important signal regarding the Scudetto race.

Neither Inter nor Juventus started the season off the way that they’d have wanted to, to put it mildly.

However, the two look to have found their footing in recent matches, particularly the Nerazzurri who have won four from four in the league.

A win for either side would be a significant result in terms of the complexion of the race for top four and possibly also the Scudetto.

For Bergomi, Inter winning in particular would send a message to high-flying Napoli at the top of the table.

“This match will tell us a lot, but it will depend a lot on what happens in Napoli’s match,” he said.

“If Spalletti’s team are to win in Bergamo, they would really start to establish a lead at the top.”

“And even a draw in Turin, hardly a bad result, would widen the gap for the Scudetto, which is Inter’s main objective” he continued.

Bergomi then noted that “For Inter, playing away in Turin is always emotionally difficult.”

“Even in their best moments, the Nerazzurri always struggle away to Juventus.”

“Last season they won a an important match there, although they didn’t play well,” Bergomi continued.

“The emotional side of things will have a big impact, Juventus are starting to grow into the season and Inter are in great form.”
