Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that Hakan Calhanoglu should continue to play in the regista role in Inter’s matches before the World Cup break.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, the former defender gave the view that it would not be worth disrupting the balance that has been created in the short term to try and get Brozovic back into the team immediately.

Brozovic is back from injury and should be part of Inter’s squad for Sunday’s Serie A clash with Juventus.

However, in the month that the Croat has been out injured, a formidable midfield trio has been formed containing Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Nicolo Barella.

There is little doubt that Brozovic will still have a big role to play throughout the rest of the season.

However, in the immediate future, Bergomi is skeptical about the idea of disrupting the balance that exists with Calhanoglu.

“I wouldn’t change things up,” he said.

“Brozovic is very important to the team, last season the team struggled when he was out.”

“Now, though, the matches to come are extremely important, there’s just a bit to go before the break, and they should go with the players who can guarantee quality immediately,” he continued.

“Then the other players will still be important as substitutes during the match.”

Bergomi noted that “I must say that Calhanolgu has been a pleasant surprise, because he manages to do better in the defensive phase than Brozovic.”

“Obviously it’s not purely positive, as when the tempo of a match raises then the team needs someone who can manage things, which Brozovic is the master of us.”

“For me they could also be alternated depending on the match,” he added.
