Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was disappointed with the manner of his side’s performance after they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Juventus in the Derby d’Italia this evening.

The Nerazzurri were comfortably beaten at the Allianz Stadium, with second half goals from Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagiolo settling the encounter in Juventus’ favour.

Defeat sees Massimiliano Allegri’s side leapfrog Inter in the standings and move a point clear of the Nerazzurri after 13 games, but in an interview with Italian television broadcaster DAZN, as reported by FCInterNews.it, Inzaghi spoke of his frustration at conceding twice on the counter attack.

“We have to work on a tactical and mental level, we gave away two goals from restarts, which we worked on for four days after Bayern Munich, and we had to concede a foul in both cases,” Inzaghi revealed.

“You can’t stop those two actions, you have to act better with preventive measures and maybe give a foul away.

“It’s a fact, we have to do more. We could have taken the lead after what we had done, but we have to improve in small details because these matches are always on edge.”

Having gone into the half-time break level, Inzaghi spoke of his frustration at his side letting the match get away from them, and felt that Inter had wasted chances to draw level before conceding the second goal late on.

“We had an excellent first half and shouldn’t have gone in at the break at 0-0 at Juve. The regret is there,” he continued.

“In the second half we conceded goals after starting well and we lost cohesion, despite having the opportunity to equalise, and then we went 2-0 down.

“The defeat is heavy, it hurts, it is against one of our competitors, but football is like this. Last year maybe we won without deserving to, this year maybe it shouldn’t have been 2-0 but we have to improve in these matches and be good at taking opportunities.”

Having fallen to defeat, Inter now trail league leaders Napoli by 11 points, and Inzaghi called for greater consistency and for a reaction from his team.

“Inter must aim to have even more continuity. Everyone ahead of us keeps moving forward, this defeat hurts because of the importance of the game but in two days we are back on the pitch.

“The defeat can bring disappointment but we must be good at recovering in the best possible way. This time we did not score after having done so for 24 consecutive games.”

It has has been an underwhelming season for the Nerazzurri after finishing second last season, with five defeats already, but Inzaghi felt that his team were short of luck in some cases.

“We shouldn’t have lost after a match that went like this, then we were rushed and we lost unity when had to keep calm.

“In other games we shouldn’t have lost five, like in the matches against Udinese and Roma, where in other years we would have drawn.

“We did well in the Champions League, but we weren’t able to achieve consistency in the league,” he added.
