Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni is not expected to recover from illness in time to start against Juventus in the Derby d’Italia, paving the way for Francesco Acerbi to step in.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italy international has been suffering from flu-like symptoms and missed yesterday’s training session, though he did travel with the squad to Turin.

Despite hopes that Bastoni would recover overnight, with his symptoms and condition being monitored, the former Atalanta defender is still suffering and is likely to be named on the bench at the Allianz Stadium.

Summer signing Francesco Acerbi will deputise, with the ex-Lazio man ready to slot in alongside Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij at the back.

Elsewhere, midfielder Marcelo Brozovic will return to the squad after almost 50 days out with a left thigh injury, and the Croatia international will be amongst the substitutes for the match in Turin.
