Inter-owned midfielder Steffano Sensi is set to undergo surgery after he fractured his ankle during the second half of his club Monza’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 27-year-old will go under the knife to treat a fracture to his malleolus and the base of his fibula.

Sensi had to come off the pitch in tears during the second half of Monza’s 2-0 victory over Verona.

The midfielder had gone into a challenge with Gialloblu midfielder Ibrahima Sulemana Kakari, which caused him to land awkwardly.

It was immediately obvious that the challenge had done some damage, as the Inter-owned midfielder was in visible pain.

Sensi was substituted off looking distraught, and tests after the match revealed the nature of the injury.

The midfielder will undergo surgery in the near future to address the fracture to his malleolus and the base of his fibula.

Sensi joined newly-promoted Monza on a season-loan long at the start of the current season.
