Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was his team’s standout performer in their Serie A loss to Juventus yesterday in the view of Italian media.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi made an error in substituting the 28-year-old off.

Inzaghi went to his bench midway through the second half of yesterday’s match against Juventus, feeling that he needed to respond given that his team had went a goal down.

The coach decided to change up the formation to more of a 3-4-1-2, and Calhanoglu was the midfielder who was sacrificed to make way for Joaquin Correa.

However, for the Gazzetta the Turk had actually looked like the Nerazzurri’s most effective player up to that point, with the newspaper giving him a score of 6.5/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi was given just a 5/10 grade, the same as for Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella.
