Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti feels that at the moment the thing that the Nerazzurri are missing is a player who is hard for the opposition to predict.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Moratti gave the view that this Inter squad is strong but identified the lack of a player who has a moment of invention to unlock matches.

Few would deny that at the moment Inter’s squad is one of at least the two or three strongest in Serie A, at least on paper.

In terms of balance, however, there are some questions about whether the team is missing a profile of player who can regularly unlock difficult matches with a dribble or pass.

The team have the technical quality from back to front necessary to execute a high-pressing possession game, but sometimes look short on ideas when they reach the final third.

In the view of Moratti, this is exactly what the team is missing.

“There’s not too much wrong with how Inter play,” he said, “they have excellent players.”

“What’s needed is to understand how they can play great matches against good or even very good teams, but then drop off against the best opposition, apart from Barcelona.”

“There’s something missing,” the former President suggested.

“They lack a bit of imagination,” he continued, “a player who is unpredictable and can change the game.”

“I was hoping for a lot in Lautaro and I continue to back him, he has a lot of class, and then Barella’s in great form, but being unpredictable is something altogether different.”

“Maybe we need to look to sign a player who’s like that.”

“In all other respects they’re at the same level as the other teams, but unfortunately they can lose their quality in the most decisive matches,” he added.
