The promise of the captain’s armband is not a necessary precondition for Milan Skriniar to agree a contract extension with Inter.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the 27-year-old isn’t considering the possibility of being captain of the team on a permanent basis as a major factor in his decision.

Inter are now in advanced talks with Skriniar and his representatives regarding the possibility of extending his contract.

The fact that in recent matches where current club captain Samir Handanovic has been out of the starting eleven, the Slovakian has worn the armband, has been considered as a possibly significant development.

However, according to Tuttosport, this is not particularly the case.

The 27-year-old is receptive to agreeing a new deal, and listening to offers that would take him level with some of the other highest earners, but the captaincy is not likely to be a decisive factor in the talks.
