Inter wingback Raoul Bellanova feels that Maicon in particular is a former Nerazzurri player who is a point of reference for him.

Speaking in the official matchday program for this evening’s Serie A clash with Bologna, Bellanova named the treble-winning Brazilian as his idols, noting that he has all his goals for Inter committed to memory.

Bellanova will have a long way to go if he is to ever equal the accomplishments that Maicon had in a Nerazzurri shirt.

The Brazilian was a key part of a team that won several Serie A titles and, most memorably, the European treble in 2010.

Maicon’s charging runs down the right flank were a key to how that team, as he even got on the scoresheet in a crucial Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.

Bellanova has shown flashes of the style of play associated with the Brazilian, although the 22-year-old still has a lot of growing left to do in the game.

Asked about who his idol is, Bellanova replied that “It could only be Maicon, former Inter right-back.”

“Being an Inter fan for me he was unique, his goals, the one under the crossbar against Milan, and from outside the box against Juventus, I have them committed to memory.”
