Inter wingback Federico Dimarco has taken an absolutely decisive step up this season, and in so doing has made the left flank his own.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the 25-year-old has now inherited the spot in the starting eleven from Ivan Perisic.

Dimarco had not necessarily gone into this season with the expectation that he would be the player to grow into the starting spot on the left flank vacated by Perisic who left on a free transfer during the summer.

The 25-year-old certainly proved himself to be a versatile utility man at both wingback and in the back three last season, but was not necessarily seen as being part of the strongest possible starting eleven.

However, this time around, Dimarco looks to be exactly that.

This hasn’t simply been because the 25-year-old has been the only one available, and in fact he has been out the competition of Robin Gosens who was specifically signed to take over from Perisic.

Instead, Dimarco has grown into the role by growing as a player.

The Nerazzurri academy products displays have been looking more and more complete, as he both provides more goals and assists, and looks more and more solid defensively by the match seemingly.
