Inter will use an upcoming friendly against Red Bull Salzburg as an opportunity to make progress in a deal to sign midfielder Noah Okafor from the Austrian club.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi claimed that Inter were hot on the trail of Switzerland international Okafor and there was potential for a deal to be struck later this year.

Inter are due to face Salzburg on 7 December as part of their training camp in Malta as they attempt to maintain match fitness during the World Cup break, and it is considered the prime opportunity to discuss a deal to bring Okafor in.

Meanwhile, the journalist also suggested that a move for the 22-year-old could see Austrian winger Valentino Lazaro move the other way, having enjoyed a good season on loan at Torino.

“Inter will make an attempt in June for Marcus Thuram and also for Okafor of Salzburg,” the Mediaset journalist revealed.

“He is very interesting and quick , you are looking at a fast player who beats his man and creates numerical superiority, however he costs €20 million.

“Watch out, because a sort of collaboration is being set up with Salzburg, given that on 7 December  there will be a friendly match in Malta against Inter,” Barzaghi declared.

“It could be an important moment to talk about the player and maybe try to secure an exchange with Lazaro, who is having a good season.”

Okafor joined Salzburg from Basel in 2020 and has scored 33 goals in 98 appearances, whilst also earning eight caps for Switzerland.
