Inter’s top target to strengthen their attack is Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, but their pursuit of the Frenchman would be very much linked to the future of Romelu Lukaku.

This according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Marco Barzaghi, who reported on his YouTube channel that the Nerazzurri have made signing Thuram a significant goal, but that doing so would particularly become a goal if Lukaku’s future is uncertain.

Thuram has been a target for Inter in the past, and given that the 25-year-old’s contract with Gladbach is set to expire at the end of June 2023, he would be available on a free transfer in the summer should he extend.

Bayern Munich are also interested in signing Thuram, however, and could pose formidable competition for Inter.

According to Barzaghi, Inter’s strategy could be to go all-out to sign Thuram, but only in the event that they do not expect to be able to rely on Lukaku due to injuries.

“Inter will make decisions about the future of their attack, but these will depend on what happens with Lukaku’s situation,” he said.

“Their number one goal is to try to bring Marcus Thuram in on a free transfer in June.”

He noted that “Inter would struggle to compete with Bayern Munich for him, who are very interested.”

“If Lukaku continues to have injury struggles, then they could already try to bring him in in January,” he continued.

Barzaghi noted that “My sources have confirmed that Inter’s goal is to sign him on a free transfer in June.”
