Belgium coach Roberto Martinez is going to wait as long as he can before deciding if Inter striker Romelu Lukaku can play a role at the World Cup, according to a report in the Italian media.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the medical examinations regarding Romelu Lukaku’s fitness are not going to take place until Monday and that is when more details will become clear about his ability to play at the World Cup.

Roberto Martinez has got until 24 hours before Belgium’s first group game to remove Romelu Lukaku from the squad and replace him with someone from the standby list.

The striker is set to be with the group in training for the first few days regardless and then a decision will have to be taken.

The expectation is that he will be fit enough to play the final group stage game against Croatia and then the knockout stages should Belgium progress.
