The impressive form of Hakan Calhanoglu in a deeper midfield role could prompt Inter coach Simone Inzaghi to change the position of Marcelo Brozovic.

According to Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, and as reported by FCInter1908.it, Croatia international Brozovic will be on the bench in today’s Serie A match against Atalanta, with Calhanoglu retaining his place alongside Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

With Brozovic suffering an injury on international duty with Croatia in September and only making his comeback last week, Inzaghi has had to rely on Calhanoglu in an unfamiliar role, but the former AC Milan midfielder has excelled there.

This could have a knock-on effect for Brozovic, with the 29-year-old now potentially being moved into a more advanced role going forward, similarly to how he plays for Croatia.

It is thought that Inzaghi’s plans will be made clear in the immediate aftermath of the World Cup break, and he could alternate between Calhanoglu and Brozovic in the deeper role.
