Inter-owned striker Sebastiano Esposito is likely to have his loan spell with Belgian club Anderlecht cut short in January.

This according to Belgian news outlet HLN, who report that the 20-year-old has fallen out of favour at his current loan club and that his loan spell is likely to be cut short as early as the January transfer window, with the two clubs looking for a solution.

Esposito joined Anderlecht on loan during the summer window, with the hope being that the striker could establish himself with a strong run of form, building on last season on loan with Basel.

However, the 20-year-old started the season behind Wolverhampton Wanderers-owned striker Fabio Silva in the pecking order, whilst youngsters Mario Stroeykens and Benito Raman have been favoured over him in recent matches.

Anderlecht have an option to make Esposito’s loan spell permanent for around €10 million, but now it instead does not even look as though he will see out the rest of the current season.

The 20-year-old is currently in Rome, having left Belgium, and the expectation is that the Nerazzurri will look for a more suitable destination for him for the remainder of the campaign where he can play regularly.
