Inter wingback Federico Dimarco feels that the team must take the opportunity to prepare for the rest of the season during the World Cup break, and come back at their best starting with a win against Napoli at the start of January.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old spoke of the team’s desire to return in the best way possible after a long stop for the World Cup.

Inter’s campaign will pause along with the rest of the club football season as the winter World Cup begins next week.

Some of the Nerazzurri’s squad will be participating in the competition with their national teams, and others will be training with a view to the rest of the season on the other side of the World Cup break.

Inter’s first match comes against league leaders Napoli, a fixture in which the Nerazzurri will need to show their best if they hope to gain some ground at the top.

“I think this long break will be helpful for everyone, because we’ve just played 21 matches in two and a half months,” Dimarco noted.

“I think that in January when we face Napoli we’ll be doing well,” he added.

“We hope to pick right up where we left off.”
