Inter could sign midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Racing Club as early as January in the event that Roberto Gagliardini leaves the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sporta, via FCInterNews, who report that the timeline for signing the 19-year-old could be sped up in the event that Gagliardini departs.

Inter have been scouting Alcaraz and are serious about signing the young Argentine.

The idea has been to try and sign the 19-year-old next summer, where he would become the main backup for Nicolo Barella in the squad as he has a similar profile to the former Cagliari midfielder.

However, it cannot be ruled out that Gagliardini could already be on his way as early as the January transfer window, given that the 28-year-old is finding little playing time so far this season.

In the event that Gagliardini leaves, Alcaraz would immediately become the main candidate to replace him.

The asking price for Alcaraz would be around €12 million, but Inter could look to include striker Facundo Colidio as part of a deal in order to lower this amount.
