Former Valencia B team coach Oscar Fernandez feels that Inter-linked Valencia wingback Jesus Vazquez is somewhat stylistically similar to AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, Fernandez gave his thoughts on the 19-year-old’s qualities, also stressing that he needs to find the right next step in his career without overshooting and ending up in the wrong environment.

Vazquez has ended up on Inter’s radar as a possible reinforcement on the left flank in the event that Robin Gosens departs.

Despite still being a teenager, the Spaniard has already shown an aptitude for playing a wide role that could be quite suitable for what the Nerazzurri need in the wingback position.

Vazquez’s former coach Fernandez did not want to go too far in his appraisal of the 19-year-old.

However, having also coached Rossoneri player Theo, he does feel that there are real similarities of the Valencia player to the Frenchman.

“In some ways h’is similar to the AC Milan player, whom I worked with when I was coaching the Atletico Madrid youth team,” the coach said of Vazquez.

“I think there are similarities between him and Theo in terms of performance, both technical and physical.”

“The Frenchman, however, plays a lot in attack, I can’t say at what level Vazquez is  right now,” he went on, “over the last two years he’s played several matches with the senor team and it was clear how ready he is to become a professional.”

“Be careful, however,” Fernandez added, “Jesus is a special player, but he needs to be eased into it slowly, one step at a time.”

“Now a middle ground is needed,” he argued, “to get out of his comfort zone but not go too far.”
