Italian journalist Fabio Caressa feels that the main issues that are holding Inter back this season concern their defense.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Nerazzurra, via FCInterNews, the journalist argued that the Nerazzurri cannot be successful this season if they do not concede fewer goals, and also gave his thoughts on coach Simone Inzaghi.

There have been plenty of positives to Inter’s season so far.

However, a relative lack of clean sheets, and the tendency to concede quite a few goals from relatively few chances allowed, has meant that the Nerazzurri have needed to be clinical in attack in order to get any results.

This cannot always be expected, and so the Nerazzurri have dropped more points than they will have expected, particularly away from home and against direct rivals.

“Inter have problems in defense,” Caressa said of this team, “they can’t concede goals they have been if they want to win anything.”

“Maybe it’s an individual problem,” the journalist continued, “Skriniar’s form may have picked up somewhat, but the team can’t defend in a compact way.”

“We all like the more spectacular game, but the teams that win historically are the ones that concede the fewest goals,” Caressa stressed.

Caressa also gave his thoughts on Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi, stating that “He’s an excellent coach, he’s certainly gotten results.”

“It’s also true that the coach has to understand where he is, and Simone’s communication has not always been successful in certain moments,” he continued.

“In my opinion, an example of a communication error came after last season’s match against Liverpool,” he stated, “you can’t talk about how you’ve beaten Liverpool away when you get eliminated like that, it’s not good enough for Inter.”
