Inter could turn their attention to securing a contract extension for Hakan Calhanoglu over the coming months, after the midfielder’s impressive season.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Turkey international’s deal at the club has moved up the agenda as the Nerazzurri look to tie him down, as a reward for his fine form in a new role in midfield.

Calhanoglu penned a three-year contract upon joining from AC Milan in the summer of 2021, and has settled in with 11 goals and 18 assists since switching to the other half of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Having deputised for the injured Marcelo Brozovic in a deeper role with impressive results, Inter are ready to begin talks in the early part of 2023 to extend the 28-year-old’s deal as it reaches the halfway stage.

Calhanoglu has secured the backing of senior figures at the Biscione after leading them through a difficult spell this season, with his goal against Barcelona and performances in Brozovic’s position considered a turning point in the campaign.
