Bari striker Eddie Salcedo, currently on loan from Inter, has spoken of his admiration for Nerazzurri attacker Lautaro Martinez.

The 21-year-old was sent out on loan to the Serie B club to gain experience after failing to break into Inter’s first team this season, but admitted to using his time in training at Inter to learn from his more established teammates.

In an interview published in yesterday’s newspaper edition of Quotidiano di Puglia, the Genoa-native offered his thoughts on his season with Bari so far, and revealed that Martinez was the best player that he had witnessed in training.

“I’m certainly not 100%, I can give more and I know it. I’m working on it every day to get there,” Salcedo declared.

“The strongest footballer I’ve trained with? Definitely Lautaro Martinez.”

The Italy U21 international also revealed his footballing hero as he grew up, whilst pointed to current Torino coach Ivan Juric as the most impactful on his fledgling career, having worked under him whilst on loan at Hellas Verona in from 2019 until 2021.

“Neymar was my idol, since I was a child, I look up to him and admired him.

“The coach who had the most impact? Definitely Ivan Juric, he was like a father to me,” Salcedo claimed.

“I have to thank him every day. We spoke again this summer. He believed in me, he brought me to Verona, and I’ve follow him in Turin and see that he’s doing very well. I always wish the best for him,” the striker added.

Salcedo joined Inter on an initial loan from Genoa in 2018 before making the move permanent the following year, but is yet to make an appearance for the Nerazzurri’s first team.
