Inter would only extend striker Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal from Chelsea beyond the end of the current season if they feel that his fitness and form are reliable.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri’s strategy with regards to the Belgian’s future will be depend on his physical condition.

When Lukaku arrived back at Inter on loan just one year after he left in a big-money move to Chelsea, the expectation was certainly that the Nerazzurri would try to keep him past the end of his one-year loan deal.

However, the 29-year-old has barely been able to play this season so far due to a serious thigh injury.

If the feeling at the club is that Lukaku is able to decisively put the injury behind him and get to his past then their strategy of trying to keep him beyond next summer would be unchanged, but if they have doubts then their approach could change.
