Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter have a habit of playing very well when fit but poorly when their physical levels drop off at all.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, the former Nerazzurri defender gave his thoughts on the role that physical condition plays in the team’s form.

Inter have had some very good performances this season where the team has worked very well as a united, but also some displays where the compactness between the lines needed to defend and keep the ball properly hasn’t really been present.

At times, such as in Serie A losses to Lazio or Udinese, the issue has simply looked to have been that the team were overrun and couldn’t plug the gaps.

For Bergomi, the physical fitness is the key matter in determining which Inter side shows up in a given match.

“When Inter are fully fit, they can play a style of football that’s just brilliant to watch,” the former defender said.

“On other occasions, however, they’re slow and predictable, they can’t seem to change the tempo of play.”
