Italian journalist Marco Bucciantini believes that while Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries shows his best qualities in finishing off attacking moves, he is not as proficient in buildup play.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, Bucciantini gave his appraisal of the 26-year-old’s strengths and weaknesses.

Dumfries’s qualities in the final third can hardly be doubted.

The Dutchman has shown that he is capable of both scoring and assisting goals, whilst his pace and the timing of his movements have made him an excellent outlet down the right flank on numerous occasions for the Nerazzurri.

However, in building up possession Dumfries’s limitations can be exposed.

The former PSV wingback’s first touch is far from perfect, whilst he is not always consistent with his passing of the ball, and for this reason Bucciantini sees him as more of a player to finish off attacking move.

“Dumfries is a player for finishing off moves, not for building them up,” the journalist said.

“You can always see him in the final third, but very rarely earlier on in play.”
