Former Cagliari and SPAL head coach Leonardo Semplici believes that Inter and Juventus are the two teams who could catch Napoli at the top of the Serie A table after the World Cup break.

Speaking to Italian news outlet L’Interista, the coach named the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri as the two teams who have what it takes to mount a comeback title charge over the remaining matches in the Italian top flight.

Napoli have what looks to be quite an imperious advantage at the top of the Serie A table after the first fifteen matches of the season.

Heading into the World Cup break, the Partenopei had been the only team at the top end of the table not to have at least a few real slip-ups.

However, after the break there will be 23 matches to play.

In this time, there will always be opportunities for the teams behind Napoli to start to catch up, and for his part Semplici backs Inter and Juventus in particular to do so.

“For me it could be Juventus,” he said of possible spoilers for Napoli, “especially if, as it seems to be the case, all the players who’ve been out injured up to this point are to return.”

“Inter, despite the gap, are always a team who can get back in the running based on what they’re capable of in the league,” he continued.

“They have the qualities to get back in it,” Semplici said of the Nerazzurri, “even if they are quite a few points back.”

“These two are the main rivals for Napoli,” he said, “and then there’s Milan who are the current champions of Italy, they’ll be able to have their say.”
