Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries feels that the current Dutch national team squad is special and can have a really positive World Cup.

Speaking to Dutch news outlet Voetbal International, via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old also praised his national teammate Virgil van Dijk as being perhaps the best defender in the world at the moment.

Dumfries and the Netherlands won their opening group stage match against Senegal, putting themselves in a very good position to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup.

From there, the Oranje will not necessarily be the big favourites to win the tournament, but at the same time will be a team tipped to go far and be difficult to knock out.

For his part, Dumfries feels that the quality as well as the chemistry and the spirit really are there for this Netherlands team to make an impact in Qatar.

“This is a very special group,” the Nerazzurri wingback commented.

“You notice it during dinner, for example.”

“The places at the table change constantly,” he explained, “because everyone gets along with everyone, it doesn’t matter who you sit with.”

“And this unity can be fundamental for us.”

Dumfries also praised the impact of Liverpool defender van Dijk to the national team, stating that “Virgil van Dijk is one of the best, if not the best defender in the world.”

“And he also brings his enormous presence,” he added. “Virgil is fundamental to this group.”
