Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is unlikely to feature for Belgium at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar until at least the round of sixteen.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Il Giornale, via FCInter1908, who claim that the 29-year-old is not likely to be fit for any of the Red Devils’ group stage matches.

Lukaku missed out on Belgium’s group stage opener against Canada this evening, and is also a major doubt for the team’s remaining two matches in their group, against the likes of Morocco and Croatia.

The Red Devils will be hoping that they can make it into the knockout rounds, and in this case the Nerazzurri striker could hope to be fit so that he can be part of the matchday squads.

Lukaku will be hoping that he can be fit when his national team needs him most given the lack of a real like-for-like backup in their squad as things stands.
