Borussia Monchengladbach Oliver Neuville makes no secret of the fact that Inter-linked forward Marcus Thuram is the subject of significant transfer interest.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Sportiva today, via FCInter1908, Neuville also noted that the Frenchman had been a target for the Nerazzurri during the summer transfer window of 2021 already.

Thuram’s form this season for Gladbach combined with the fact that his current contract with the Germans is set to expire at the end of June 2023 means that the 25-year-old is seen as a major free transfer opportunity.

Inter have been strongly linked with Thuram, having also been linked during the summer transfer window in 2021 when they were in search of attacking reinforcements following the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

However, as Neuville made clear, the Nerazzurri are far from the only club who are thinking about a move for the Frenchman.

“Marcus is having an amazing season and scoring a lot of goals,” the Gladbach assistant coach said.

“He has a contract until the end of the season but I think it’s hard to see him staying at Borussia Monchengladbach beyond that,” he continued.

“Obviously I hope he does, but we have to be realistic,” Neuville noted, “if he continues like this he will have many offers especially from England and Spain, and it would be hard to see him staying.”

He noted that “Inter were already trying to sign him two years ago, Thuram can play both on the wing and as a centre-forward which he’s been doing for the past two seasons, I think he could do well in Italy.”
