Legendary former Inter defender Ivan Cordoba has acknowledged that he turned down a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid to stay at the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Affaritaliani.it, the Colombian noted that he had an offer from Los Blancos at one point, but that his priority was to stay at Inter.

Cordoba had established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in Europe for long periods during his twelve-season stint at Inter.

The Colombian made over four-hundred appearances in a Nerazzurri shirt, helping the club to multiple Serie A titles as well as the Champions League, among other accomplishments.

Cordoba’s form with Inter did not go unnoticed by some of Europe’s other biggest clubs.

As the former defender noted, he had the chance to make the switch to Real Madrid, but in the end decided to be loyal to the Nerazzurri instead.

“I had the strength to say ‘no thank you, I want to stay here and continue to fight to win,'” he explained of the interest of Real.

“When you’re here and you feel everything that’s transmitted by the club and the fans, it’s easy.”
