Inter are making contingency plans should they receive an offer that it is too difficult to turn down for Denzel Dumfries, with Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini their prime target.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are set to undergo changes to the squad over the coming months as they look to reduce costs, and only four players will receive new contract offers should their current deal expire in the summer.

This includes Edin Dzeko, Milan Skriniar, Matteo Darmian, and Alex Cortaz, whilst there is also an acceptance that no major incomings will be made unless Inter can bring in funds through a major sale.

The most likely candidate is Netherlands international Dumfries, with Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea registering an interest in him this season.

Should Inter receive an offer in the region of €60 million for the former PSV Eindhoven man, they will cash in and turn their attention to the highly-rated Scalvini.

The versatile defender has already made 29 Serie A appearances despite not turning 19 until next month, and his relatively low wages and international experience in the Italy squad make him a prime candidate for the Nerazzurri’s defence.

Atalanta value Scalvini at €40m but Inter are remaining vigilant and will look to negotiate this price down.
