Italian journalist Maurizio Compagnoni does not believe there is that big a dropoff from former Inter wingback Achraf Hakimi to current Nerazzurri player Denzel Dumfries.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia today, via FCInteer1908, Compagnoni gave the view that Hakimi is not that much better than the player who replaced him at Inter.

The Nerazzurri cashed in on Hakimi in the summer of 2021 as they needed to meet financial targets, and it was always obvious that they were losing a player of immense quality.

However, in the form of Dumfries, Inter signed a player who looked to be a potentially very stylistically suitable replacement for the Moroccan.

The former PSV wingback did not immediately settle in and show his best form, but he has grown into an Inter shirt and become an important outlet for the team particularly in attack as Hakimi had been.

Compagnoni weighed in, stating that “Hakimi is certainly one of the best players in his position, but honestly I don’t think that Dumfries is too far inferior to him.”
